The U.S. government brags about the United States having one of the largest oil reserves in the world. My comment: Then open the reserves! I understand the business behind sitting on our own reserves, but come on. We really need to start taking care of our people, now!

Question is: Which democratic majority decides on the reasonableness, and which majority vote decides yes or no on drilling. Is it the population of a country, the states that are closest to the oil wells, or the counties closest to the wells (the afflicted population). There are a lot of people howling false play when their opinion is not the majority.

Until we have an efficient and as cost effective alternative to oil, we do not have a choice in the matter.

Why won't our buracracy allow BP or the government to dredge a dike along the gulf cost in the shallow water to have a place to collect the crude and keep it out of the marshlands? It would be much faster and cost effective than the mehtods so far.

Drilling should be allowed with reasonable restrictions. Some of those restrictions should include: NO drilling in oceans, lakes, wetlands, national parks, protected wilderness areas, to name a few. Stricter construction and operations regulations should also be enacted, backed up by SEVERE criminal penalties and LARGE fines (Large being defined as 15% or more of total annual profits) for individuals and corporations that cut corners, engage in shoddy work practices or try to skirt regulations.

The propaganda spewed by the oil and gasoline industry is obviously subverting opinions. Now is the time to end the deceptive and manipulative tactics of "Big Oil". Each day that passes is yet another day that weakens the buying power of consumers. "Big Oil" must go. The future is in front of us, and that future should be one in which "Big Oil" no longer is allowed to spread their lies and propoganda.

We are in a war situation in terms of our economic dependence on foreign oil. We need to ramp up all our efforts to achieve complete independence from oil in the same way that we put forth all our efforts to win WW II and to put a man into space. Anything less is simply fooling ourselves. Whoever discovers oil's replacement will rule the world.
